The method

A session is not a lesson.

School teaches the syllabus. I teach the exam — which is a different job, and the one nobody has time for in a class of thirty.

How it runs

Four steps, repeated every term.

1

Diagnose

A full past paper in the first fortnight, marked the way the board marks it. Not to grade your child — to find which two or three things are costing the most marks.

2

Close the gap

We work on those things only, until they are automatic. Most students need three or four sessions per gap, not a term.

3

Rehearse

Timed questions under exam conditions, with the mark scheme open afterwards so your child can see exactly where the marks were.

4

Review

A written note after every session, and a fresh paper each half term to check the gap actually closed rather than assuming it did.

What is different

Where the time actually goes.

A typical group class

Covers the syllabus at the pace of the middle of the room. Marking is a grade and a comment. Exam technique is assumed.

A session here

Covers whatever is losing marks this month. Marking is line by line against the real scheme. Exam technique is most of the work.

Practical questions

The things parents ask first.

How long are sessions? An hour, weekly, same slot each week. Consistency does more than volume.

Online or in person? Either. Online works well from Year 10 up; younger students usually do better in the room.

What if it is not working? Tell me and we stop. There is no term commitment and no notice period.

Do you teach both subjects to the same student? Rarely. One subject, done properly, beats two done half.

Start with a free assessment.

Forty-five minutes, online or in person. You will get an honest read on where your child actually is, and no pressure to book anything.
